Separation of Church and State?

Wasilla Assembly of God
Official Statement Concerning Governor Palin

"Governor Sarah Palin did attend Wasilla Assembly of God since the time she was a teenager.  She and her family were a part of the church up until 2002.  Since that time she has maintained a friendship with Wasilla Assembly of God and has attended various conferences and special meetings here.  This June, the Governor spoke at the graduation service of our School of Ministry, Master's Commission Wasilla Alaska."

EXCERPTS:

"It was so cool growin' up in this church and gettin' saved here, gettin' baptized by Pastor Riley in Little Beaver Lake Camp – freezing cold summer days that we had at camp – my whole family gettin' baptized when we were little.

I wanna tell the Master's Commission students that, uh, just be amazed.  The umbrella of this church here.  Where God is going to send you, from this church.  Believe me; I know what I'm sayin'.  Where God has sent me, from underneath the umbrella of this church, throughout the state."

"I think God's will has to be done in unifying people and companies to get that gas line built, so pray for that.  But I can do my job there in developing our natural resources and doin' things like gettin' the roads paved and makin' sure our troopers have their cop cars and their uniforms and their guns, and makin' sure our public schools are funded.  But really all that stuff doesn't do any good if the people of Alaska's heart isn't right with God.

And that's gonna be your job, as I'm doin' my job.  Let's strike this deal.  Your job is gonna be to be out there reachin' the people, hurtin' people throughout Alaska.  And we can work together to make sure God's will be done here."

"[My son is] gonna be deployed in September to Iraq.  Pray for our military men and women, who are striving to do what is right also for this country – that our leaders, our national leaders, are sending them out on a task that is from God.  That's what we have to make sure we're praying for – that there is a plan and that that plan is God's plan."

Pastor Ed Kalnin of the Wasilla Assembly of God

"What you see in a terrorist – that's called the invisible enemy.  There has always been an invisible enemy.  What you see in Iraq, basically, is a manifestation of what's going on in this unseen world called the spirit world....  We need to think like Jesus thinks.  We are in a time and a season of war, and we need to think like that.  We need to develop that instinct.  We need to develop as believers the instinct that we are at war, and that war is contending for your faith....  Jesus called us to die.  You're worried about getting hurt?  He's called us to die.  Listen, you know we can't even follow him unless you are willing to give up your life....  I believe that Jesus himself operated from that position of war mode.  Everyone say 'war mode.'  Now you say, wait a minute Ed, he's like the good shepherd; he's loving all the time and he's kind all the time.  Oh yes he is – but I also believe that he had a part of his thoughts that knew that he was in a war."
